A Perfect Day In Tokyo
We are busy planning our trip to Japan, with plenty of ideas for what to do while we travel around the country. There is so much to do, and with only a limited time to explore we needed to come up with a list to help us, so we figured we would share our itinerary for things to do in Tokyo!
Coffee Shops: Caffeine is a key to a good adventure, and Tokyo has a great coffee scene. There are two shops that everyone we know talked about and that is Koffee Mameya, and Bills. Mameya is famous for their roasting, with their beans being regarded as some of the best in the city. Bills has a full breakfast menu with the fluffiest looking pancakes and craft espresso.
Animal Cafes: While this trend has certainly made it to North America, with more than a couple cat cafes in Toronto, that’s just the beginning of what you can find in Tokyo. What I’m looking forward to is the Capybara Cafe, where I can fulfill my dream of hanging out with the world’s largest rodent (they really are adorable) . If that isn’t your style, then Dog Heart lets you hang out with dogs of all kinds, and even rent them for a walk in nearby Yoyogi park.
Shopping: After we leave behind the capybaras and drop off our toy poodle friend, shopping is next on our itinerary. There are plenty of neighbourhoods to go in Tokyo for this, but nearby Omotesando and Shibuya City have some of our favourite shops. Vintage stores like QOO and Amore, Japanese classics like Beams and Porter, and plenty more are on our list.
Food Market: Tsukiji Outer Market is a place where you can taste all sorts of Japanese cuisine, and do so in a vibrant outdoor setting. The inner market closed in 2018 but the outer one continues to thrive with stalls selling fresh fish, premium cuts of beef and desserts. Just keep an eye on the prices as some places charge a premium, knowing what an attraction this market is. Still there is a lot worth while about Tsukiji, especially if you take a tour with a local!
