The Best Beach Clubs in Sorrento
Sorrento is one of the of the most picturesque towns on Italy’s Amalfi Coast, and a great homebase to explore the rest of the region. Roman villas, ancient streets, and a prime location on the Bay of Naples make this a top destination, and one of the main attractions are the many beaches dotting the coast. We have compiled a list of the best beach clubs and public spots to lounge under the Italian sun.
Marameo Beach Club (and the Marina Piccola)
There are four clubs on the Marina Piccola in central Sorrento, Peter’s, Leonelli’s, Bagni Salvatore, and Marameo. The latter is our favourite as it resides on a boardwalk with prime sea access, and has plenty of amenities including changerooms, restaurant, and even canoe rentals. Chairs start at €13 and towels are €4. If Marameo is full, the others are excellent as well, and provide much of the same amenities throughout.
While a central location is important, sometimes it’s nice to escape the crowds and get a more local experience near the water, and that’s what Capo Di Sorrento does best. It’s more of a journey, about a 10 minute drive from the centre, but after your trek you will find an aquamarine pool under Roman arches, a magical sight indeed. There are no amenities here, but it is free so bring your own towels!
Pignatella is another rugged and beautiful rock beach outside the city centre where you can have some more space. Ladders are built to get you into the water, and you can rent chairs and umbrellas, and buy cold drinks from the beach bar. Access to the beach itself is through a campground, and costs around 10 euros (make sure to have cash on you, for entrance fees and amenities!).
For those looking for luxury Maya is where you’ll find it. Comfy loungers, top DJ’s spinning tunes and sophisticated food offerings, this is a place where you won’t just see the beach, you’ll enjoy every second of it. Day passes start at €100.
Four kilometres out of Sorrento is Puolo Beach, a mix of public and private beach with a great view of Mount Vesuvius. This place can get busy on the weekends in the summer but is a great place to relax under the sun. Chairs can be rented for €10 a day
A public beach only a 10 minute walk from the city centre of Sorrento, this beach is a mixture of paid and free sections. In the paid section you get access to changerooms, chairs, and washrooms. If you’re just looking for a quick dip this is a good spot to come during the day.
Near Capo Di Sorrento is another instagram-worthy lagoon that is unlike any other swimming hole in the area. Bagni Regina Giovanna is surrounded by ancient Roman ruins and the scenery is reminiscent of the turquoise cenotes in Tulum. This swimming spot is free, but there aren't any facilities so bring your own towel and drinks.
